UCLA Extension offers coursework designed to help students meet a portion of the educational requirements to sit for the California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination.
UCLA Extension's Role in CPA Certification
UCLA Extension does not facilitate the CPA Certification Examination. We simply offer an Accounting Certificate and classes that fulfill part of the total educational component required by the state.
Please understand that completing our certificate program and additional accounting classes does not automatically make you eligible to sit for the exam. You will need to take other accounting classes beyond our program to meet the full requirements.
Educational Units Provided
Our Accounting Certificate and related courses are structured to provide the following units, which are recognized by the California Board of Accountancy:
| Course Group | Quarter Units | Semester Units |
|---|---|---|
| Group A: Core Accounting Courses | 36 | 24 |
| Group B: Business-Related Electives | 36 | 24 |
| Ethics Class | 4 | 2.66 |
| Total Units | 76 | 50.66 |
For a full list of our accounting courses, please refer to the Accounting Certificate program page on the UCLA Extension website at this link.
Important Note for Non-California Students
Our courses are specifically designed to meet the requirements of the California Board of Accountancy (CBA).
If you plan to take the CPA Exam in a state outside of California, you must contact your local state's CPA Board to confirm that they will accept our coursework.
Contact the California Board of Accountancy (CBA)
