As a general rule, passports must be valid for six months beyond your expected departure from the United States. However, the U.S. has signed agreements with a number of countries to waive this requirement. When such an agreement is in place, the passport must be valid for the entire period of the visitor's intended stay, but the additional six-month validity period is not required. Please view a complete list of countries that have waivers in place here.
*If you have an expired passport, you may still apply for an I-20 if you have already submitted your passport renewal application. Please include a copy of your expired passport and your passport renewal application with your submission.
