How Academic Advisors Can Help
Planning Your Path: exploring programs, certificates, and courses; identifying which options align with your academic or career goals; and creating a course plan or timeline tailored to your needs.
Understanding Policies and Requirements: enrollment steps and important deadlines; academic policies or procedures you need to follow; and knowing when and how to request support from other departments.
Connecting You to Additional Resources: Financial Aid, Enrollment & Student Services, accessibility and disability support, and other student support teams as needed.
Personalized Guidance: advisors listen to your situation and help you clarify your goals, offering actionable next steps so you can move forward with confidence.
What Academic Advisors Don’t Handle
To help you get assistance from the right team, here are a few things advising does not do: approve exceptions to academic or institutional policies; override enrollment restrictions or requirements; provide immigration advising (handled by International Student Services); or make Financial Aid decisions.
How to Access Academic Advising
Group Information Sessions: attend program-specific info sessions to explore options and ask general questions.
One-on-One Advising Appointments: for individualized support, email studentadvising@uclaextension.edu to connect with an advisor who can help you plan your next steps.
