TESOL Certificate Application Requirements & Process

The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate program is designed for individuals seeking professional training in English language instruction.

Admission Requirements

Before applying, be sure you have the following documentation ready:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree: All applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  2. Official Transcripts: You must provide official transcripts as proof of your degree completion. A digital copy of these transcripts must be uploaded directly to your application.

English Language Proficiency

Students who earned their bachelor’s degree in a country where English is not the primary language must demonstrate English language proficiency. UCLA Extension accepts the following minimum test scores for admission:

IELTS Academic 6.5 (Overall Band)
Duolingo English Test 105

How to Apply

To begin your journey in the TESOL program, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the TESOL certificate page to review specific course sequences and upcoming start dates.

  2. Click the "Apply Now" to open the application. You will be prompted to log in to your student portal.

  3. Complete the application fields and upload your official transcripts and English proficiency scores (if applicable).

  4. A non-refundable certificate candidacy fee is required to formally enter the program.
