Similar to UCLA, our courses run on the quarter system.
It is most helpful to think about courses in terms of "what does one year of a course equal?" In the semester system, it's common to have (lecture + lab) as one course and then (lecture + lab) as another course which equals one year of a discipline. UCLA, and thus UCLA Extension, because of the 11-week quarter system, divides up the coursework slightly differently (for example Chem XL 14A + 14B + 14BL = 1 year of general chem with a lab), BUT it still equals one year of a discipline.
Note: when professional schools ask for "2 semesters of general/inorganic chemistry with a lab" they are asking for 1 year of general/inorganic chemistry with a lab.
The winter, spring, summer, and fall quarter lengths are 11 weeks long, with the final exam being in the final week of classes; there is no “finals week”. Please visit our academic calendar for more information.
