Assessments, quizzes, tests, and exams will often be part of your course. See the Canvas Student Quizzes guide for more information.
Pre‑Quiz Checklist (for Canvas LMS)
Environment & Device
- Use a supported browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge) and ensure it’s up to date.
- Preferably use a laptop or desktop (rather than a mobile device) for stability.
- Use a stable internet connection — if possible, wired (Ethernet) or strong WiFi.
- Close other browser tabs/apps, turn off large downloads or streaming during the quiz.
Browser Setup
- Restart your browser (or reboot your computer) before starting the quiz — ensures a fresh session.
- Clear browser cache and cookies ahead of the quiz.
- Enable pop‑ups or allow the quiz site to open pop‑ups if required.
- Disable (or at least pause) browser extensions that might interfere (e.g., ad blockers).
Quiz Details & Logistics
- Confirm quiz start time, end time, time limit (if any) and number of allowed attempts.
- Log in to Canvas early (not last‑minute) so you have buffer time for setup/issues.
- Make sure your webcam/microphone (if required for proctoring) are working.
- Know how to contact your instructor in case something goes wrong mid‑quiz. Use Canvas Inbox if contact information is not included in the Course Syllabus. For immediate technical assistance, click on the Help menu on the leftmost area of Canvas to contact Canvas 24/7 Support.
During the Quiz
- Stay on the quiz‑page tab/window; avoid switching tabs unless permitted.
- Monitor the timer (if one is shown) so you’re aware of remaining time.
- If you have essay or long answer questions, consider writing in a separate document as backup.
- If you face technical trouble (browser crash, network drop), document the time, take a screenshot if possible, and notify your instructor ASAP. For immediate technical assistance, click on the Help menu on the leftmost area of Canvas to contact Canvas 24/7 Support.
After Submission
- Wait for confirmation that your quiz submission was successful (Canvas often shows a “Submission Received” page).
- If you get a “network error” or weird behaviour after submission, contact support/instructor right away while details are fresh. For immediate technical assistance, click on the Help menu on the leftmost area of Canvas to contact Canvas 24/7 Support.
