UCLA Extension is committed to protecting the confidentiality of your records and personally identifiable information (PII). This policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding your own academic data.
Your Rights as a Student
Under federal (FERPA) and state laws, you have specific rights concerning your records:
The Right to Release: You may request that the Records Office send your transcripts to third parties.
Pseudonymous Identities: In specific cases (e.g., for public figures or high-profile individuals), you may request a pseudonymous identity to further protect your privacy.
Mandatory vs. Optional Information
When filling out UCLA Extension forms, providing most information is mandatory to complete your enrollment. However, providing the following is optional:
Social Security number (SSN)*
Date of birth
Gender
Educational level and ethnic identity
*Note: While a Social Security number is optional, not providing it may prevent UCLA Extension from issuing certain tax-reporting documents (like the 1098-T).
