UCLA Extension is an approved education provider for federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding.
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act was signed into law on July 22, 2014. It is a federally funded training and job program that creates a new approach, providing workforce investment activities through statewide and local systems.
WIOA is designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers to compete in the global economy.
Eligible WIOA Partners
UCLA Extension is proud to partner with Workforce Investment Boards such as the South Bay Workforce Investment Board and the Pacific Gateway Workforce Innovation Network.
Outside of these, you must contact your local American Job Center to determine your eligibility for WIOA funding and receive the required authorization.
Eligible UCLA Extension Certificate Programs
Not all UCLA Extension certificates are eligible for WIOA funding. Search the Public Training Vendor Database, selecting UCLA Extension under the school name, to find a list of our eligible certificate programs. You can find a partial list on our website by clicking this link.
Applying for Benefits
Before reaching out to UCLA Extension, you must speak with a representative at your local job center to discuss your interest and approval for a UCLA Extension WIOA-eligible certificate program.
Once you have chosen a program and received funding approval, your job center or counselor will contact UCLA Extension directly with a referral form to initiate a WIOA contract.
After the contract is signed by all three parties (UCLA Extension, the student, and the Job Center) the enrollment steps listed on this page will be followed.
Registration Deadlines
Learners are asked to submit enrollment paperwork at least two weeks before the start of the quarter to ensure timely processing of benefits. For the most recent dates and deadlines for receiving benefits, click here.
Continuing Eligibility Standards
Learners utilizing WIOA funds must fulfill certain conditions to maintain their funding status. These include, but are not limited to, maintaining satisfactory academic progress, not repeating courses, and receiving an attendance certificate. More information on WIOA conditions and frequently asked questions is on this link. Please read them carefully before contacting us with further questions.
Important Note
UCLA Extension is not authorized to approve funding or counsel on eligibility. You must contact your local American Job Center first.
UCLA Extension does not defer fees. If your approved WIOA funding does not cover the full program cost, you must pay the difference in full at the time of enrollment. WIOA recipients are not eligible for other discounts.
