Private alternative education loans are non-federal loans offered by private lending institutions to help students cover educational expenses at UCLA Extension. Eligibility, interest rates, fees, and repayment terms are determined by the individual lender based on creditworthiness.
Eligibility and Program Requirements
To qualify for private loan through UCLA Extension, students must meet the following enrollment conditions:
Must be enrolled in at least six units per quarter.
Courses must be taken for a letter grade. Please note that courses numbered 700 through 900 are not eligible for private loan funding.
The maximum certified loan amount cannot exceed the total cost of attendance minus any other financial aid or assistance received.
Private loans are not applied as direct tuition payments; students must pay all course fees due at the time of enrollment.
How to Apply for a Private Alternative Loan
Contact a private lender directly or visit their website to complete an online loan application at least two months before the start of the quarter. Please review our Academic Term Calendar for dates.
Provide UCLA School Code 001315.
Complete and submit the required UCLA Extension Private Loan Supplemental Application.
Pay all required course enrollment fees upfront to ensure active enrollment for the quarter.
