About OLLI
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI at UCLA) provides a unique opportunity for individuals 50+ to engage in an extensive program of non-credit courses amongst a dynamic community of lifelong learners.
- We offer lecture courses, discussion groups, foreign language, creativity, movement, & games courses.
- Classes meet for 2 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 10am-12pm, 1-3pm, or 6:30-8:30pm.
- 1 day “Taste of Osher" courses are open to the public and sometimes offered on Saturdays.
- Teach in-person and/or on Zoom.
Instructors
Our engaging instructors come from distinguished UCLA faculty, insiders from the arts and entertainment industries, and other experts in a variety of professional fields. We also present non-academic events—such as museum tours, film screenings, speaker series, and more—exclusively for our OLLI at UCLA members.
OLLI at UCLA is a great teaching opportunity for retired professors/professionals with a passion for teaching. Since our courses change each quarter, we seek instructors who can teach multiple topics within their area of expertise.
Instructor Duties

Implement inclusive teaching strategies that engage learners from a variety of backgrounds.

Develop & update course syllabus to meet program requirements, in consultation with the OLLI Manager.

Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students and update materials periodically.

Regularly monitor course evaluations in order to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum.

Participate in required orientations and annual instructor training programs.
Qualifications

A graduate degree in the field of instruction or extensive work experience in the sector

A record of outstanding success as a post-secondary or university educator.

Commitment to the highest level of academic standards and integrity.

Highly effective oral and written communication skills.

Proficiency in or willingness to learn the use of instructional technology and online teaching tools.
Employment and Compensation
Instructors are hired on a quarterly contract basis. Compensation for an average 8-week course is $800. Courses that do not meet enrollment minimums may be cancelled or rescheduled to a later date.
Application Window
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. However, course schedules are planned significantly in advance.
