Advanced standing allows UCLA Extension to give credit to students for courses and credits they earned at other accredited institutions, or in some cases, relevant professional work experience. These credits can count toward the requirements of a UCLA Extension specialization or certificate program.
Advanced standing waives a course or credit, which reduces the number of courses and/or units needed to complete.
Students can request to apply previous coursework through advanced standing for up to 25% of the total units required in a UCLA Extension certificate or specialization program. Exceptions to this limit may be made for individual students or entire programs if reviewed by the CE and approved by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
Please note that requests for advanced standing must be submitted within the first quarter of a student’s program candidacy. Connect with a student advisor at studentadvising@uclaextension.edu to discuss your options.
