To enroll in a course at UCLA Extension, you have four options: online, by phone, in-person, or by postal mail. The following instructions are for online enrollment and navigating enrollment restrictions only. For other forms of enrollment, visit our UCLA Extension: How to Enroll page.
Courses open for general enrollment
Follow these steps:
- Go to a course page and scroll down to ‘enroll’. See the screenshot below:

Click on checkout.
- You will be asked to sign in to your student account. If you are a new student, you will need to make a new account.

Once signed in, the course will appear in your cart. Before proceeding to checkout, read our registration policies.

On the payment page, confirm your demographic information is updated, or click on ‘view my profile or make changes’ to update it.
- Proceed to enter your payment information, accept the terms and conditions, and click on ‘continue checkout’.
Restricted courses
For these, you will be guided through an application process once you click on the ‘yellow’ enroll button on a course page.
- Follow steps a through d above.
- If you need permission to enroll, you will typically see the following message(s)

Follow instructions to submit your materials and/or waivers. Click on ‘submit application’ when done. You can also ‘save and finish later’. If you finish later, please click ‘submit application’ when done.
- Courses with special admissions requirements typically require 7-14 business days for processing, unless otherwise specified at the time of the application process.
- Once your enrollment is confirmed, you will receive an email from a UCLA Extension team member providing confirmation of enrollment. Enrollments cannot be processed until you have received confirmation of enrollment.
Courses with recommended or required pre-requisites
Some courses will list recommended or required prerequisites. These are typically found on the course page under the course description. Look at these examples below:
