Special Topics for Film & Television Writers
A majority of our Beginning Feature Film/Television Writing courses, as well as our Special Topics for Film & Television Writers, courses will not have any prerequisites listed. If a prerequisite is listed and you have not taken that course, please reach out to advising@uclaextension.edu for prerequisite clearance. This process will require an application so please do this as early as you can. If you have workshop and/or professional experience, please do not hesitate to ask about bypassing beginner coursework.
Beginning Feature Film or Television Writing Courses
These courses are for folks who are new to screenwriting and curious about how to write a script-or even how to format one. Beginning Feature Film courses will walk you through writing and finishing a feature film script. Beginning Television courses will teach you how to construct and write out a script for an existing TV show. These are workshop courses, with the TV writing courses specifically mimicking a writers room!
Intermediate Feature Film or Television Writing Courses
These courses are for folks who would like to continue working on their projects from previous courses. They are also for new students who already have workshop experience and are looking to start a new project.
Advanced Feature Film or Television Writing Courses
These courses are for students with writing experience and projects under their belt. Many of these courses have applications as a part of the enrollment process so please review the prerequisites/applications listed. Students with workshop and/or professional experience are encouraged to apply.
Special Topics for Film & Television Writers
These courses have varying topics and are sometimes skill-specific. These are great options for students looking to build skills needed for screenwriters or learn about special topics.
