The steps differ for students who pay out of pocket and those who use a third-party provider to pay for them (e.g., WIOA students, Veterans, or employers). International students on F-1 visas must also consider different factors that may impact their F-1 visa status. Please read the rest of the article carefully:
Transfer deadline: Students can transfer from one course to another by 11:59 pm PT on the final transfer date for a quarter. To find the exact date for your term, please check out the Academic Term Calendar by clicking here.
Transfer restrictions: Courses cannot be transferred to a different academic quarter. Tuition fees cannot be credited to a future quarter.
There is no administrative fee charged for transferring courses. This makes them a better option than dropping courses within the add/drop period.
Transfer information for self-paying students
Most students can process their transfer request directly through the Student Portal.
- Log in to the UCLA Extension Student Portal.
- In the menu, select My Enrollment History.
- Find the course you wish to leave and select "request transfer."
- Follow the prompts to select your new course and complete the request.
When to Email Your Request
In a few situations, you will need to email your request instead of using the online portal. This ensures your transfer is processed correctly. Please email your transfer request to the Enrollment Office (enroll@uclaextension.edu) if:
- A 3rd party (like an employer or sponsor) submitted the payment for your original enrollment.
- You used any discounts when enrolling in the original course.
- You are trying to transfer into a waitlisted course after receiving an invitation to enroll.
International Students on an F-1 visa
International students on an F-1 visa can self-transfer by following the instructions above. However, you must maintain in-person unit requirements as mandated by the U.S. federal government.
