The Novel Writing sequence is designed to support writers through the full journey of developing, drafting, revising, and preparing a novel manuscript. Each course aligns with a different stage of the writing process, helping students determine the best starting point based on their current progress.
Best for: Students with an idea for a novel but little or no manuscript written.

- Complete and refine your opening chapter.
- Recommended starting point for first-time novelists.
Novel II: Developing the Draft
Best for: Students who have started writing and have a clear story concept.
- Expand beyond the opening chapter.
- Strengthen story structure and character arcs.
- Address pacing, conflict, and scene development.
- Establish a plan for completing a full draft.
Novel III: Completing the Manuscript
Best for: Students actively drafting their novel.
- Focus on maintaining momentum and finishing the manuscript.
- Refine narrative consistency and character development.
- Troubleshoot common drafting challenges.
- Work toward a complete first draft.
Novel IV: Revision and Refinement
Best for: Students with a completed or nearly completed draft.
- Analyze the manuscript's strengths and weaknesses.
- Revise plot, structure, pacing, and characterization.
- Improve clarity, voice, and overall storytelling.
- Transform a rough draft into a polished manuscript.
Novel V: Preparing for Publication
Best for: Students with a substantially revised manuscript.
- Fine-tune the manuscript for submission.
- Learn about the publishing landscape.
- Develop query letters, synopses, and submission materials.
- Receive advanced feedback on publication readiness.
Which Course Is Right for Me?
- I have an idea but haven't started writing: Novel I
- I have written a few chapters: Novel II
- I am actively drafting my novel: Novel III
- I have a completed first draft: Novel IV
- I have revised my manuscript and am considering publication: Novel V
Note: While many students begin with Novel I, writers with significant progress on a manuscript may be able to enter the sequence at a later stage via application if their experience aligns with the course objectives.
