UCLA Extension offers foreign language courses that are open enrollment and do not require a test or placement exam.
All active foreign language courses can be found on this website. Please note that courses with numerals (e.g. 1, 2, 3) build upon each other, so these courses must be taken in order. All courses with XL in their course number are open enrollment so there is no need to submit a transcript or proof of prior experience.
Courses with the number “1” in the title are introductory courses and great starting points for a majority of students interested in learning that respective language. You are then welcome to enroll in the higher levels upon completion of introductory courses. These courses are offered according to our Academic Term Calendar, please see all dates and deadlines here.
