The Creative Writing Certificate is a flexible program that allows students to develop their writing skills across multiple genres, including fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, poetry, and more.
I'm new to creative writing:
Begin with introductory courses in the genre that interests you most. These courses focus on foundational writing techniques, creative exercises, and instructor feedback.
I already have a writing project:
Consider intermediate or genre-specific workshops that provide structured feedback on works in progress and support ongoing revision.
I'm interested in memoir or personal essays:
Explore creative nonfiction and memoir courses designed to help you develop personal narratives, essays, and longer-form projects.
I'm interested in fiction or poetry:
Choose courses that align with your goals, whether you are writing short stories, novels, or poetry collections.
What is the capstone:
The certificate culminates in a capstone project, where students make significant progress toward a polished body of creative work developed throughout the program.
Tip: Students are encouraged to choose courses based on their interests, experience level, and writing goals. There is no single required starting point for the certificate.
