Enrollment Conditions

There are a few important things to keep in mind regarding enrollment conditions before you enroll at UCLA Extension.

Who Can Enroll
As UCLA’s principal provider of continuing education, the majority of UCLA Extension courses are designed for the post-baccalaureate professional-level student. Enrollment is typically reserved for adult students 18 years of age and older. Students under 18 years of age may receive consent to enroll based on special academic competence and approval by the instructor. 
Please complete and submit the Waiver for Enrollment of Minors. 

Permission to Enroll (PTE)
Many UCLA Extension courses, specializations, and certificate programs are restricted, meaning you must apply for admission and/or obtain permission before enrolling.

Courses: To enroll in a restricted course, add the course to your Shopping Cart and follow the on-screen instructions when checking out. You might be prompted to submit a separate application or to update your student profile (for age-restricted courses). The minimum requirements for restricted course enrollment can typically be found in our course descriptions.

Specializations and Certificate Programs: If the UCLA Extension program you are interested in is restricted, there will be application instructions on the specific program page. You may be subject to a nominal application fee. If your application is approved, we will contact you and provide instructions on how to complete your enrollment.

Wait Lists
UCLA Extension courses with enrollment limits will close for further enrollment once the maximum number of students has been reached; however, many of these courses utilize wait lists. To add yourself to a waiting list:

  1. Locate the course in which you want to enroll. If the course uses the wait list option, click on “Join Wait List”.
  2. Log into your student portal account.
  3. Complete your wait list registration from your cart (you will not be charged for the course at this time).
  4. As spaces open in the class, we will contact wait listed students to offer them a seat in the course and to provide instructions on finalizing their enrollment. Priority is given to certificate candidates who need to complete high demand sections to fulfill their program requirements.
