The Photography certificate program consists of 4 courses (3 required and 1 elective). The photography certificate can be completed in 1.5 years on a part-time basis.
For students with knowledge of manual camera controls and basic familiarity with Lightroom or Photoshop, Photography X is the recommended first course. Students new to photography may wish to complete ART X 450.33 Introduction to Creative Photography first, which can be counted as an elective towards the certificate. Photography Portfolio Workshop is the suggested final course, so that you can apply everything you’ve learned. Prerequisites for each course (if applicable) can be found on course pages under the “About this Course” section.
If you anticipate needing to take a quarter off or would like to inquire about taking courses out of sequence, we highly recommend scheduling an appointment with an advisor by emailing advising@uclaextension.edu. This will help ensure that you are able to complete the program successfully within the 5-year certificate eligibility period.
When preparing to enroll, please ensure you are aware of all dates and deadlines available on our Academic Term Calendar.
